Mechanical Design Engineer - SolidWorks

Mechanical Design Engineer ideally with experience of SolidWorks now required for a growing company who have a solid reputation for offering a full range of design, prototyping, assembly, installation and support to the Aerospace and Automotive manufacturing industries.

Joining a busy and professional engineering team, you will be a well-rounded Mechanical Engineer able to cope with varied projects.

Mechanical Design key role and responsibilities

• Generate specification documents
• Support customer review meetings and provide on-site support as required
• Validate designs to ensure all requirements have been achieved
• Ensure that all designs perform to best practice technology standards and are not over engineered for fit for purpose customer applications
• Produce technical mechanical drawings for manufacturing following best practise and procedures
• Review designs and produce BOM's
• Keep good document control including drawing revision
• Assist and support the manufacturing team during the build process
• Create documentation and any risk analysis reviews are carried out as necessary to support CE marking as appropriate

Ideally HNC / HND or degree qualified, you will have c3 years proven experience of mechanical design ideally with SolidWorks, however other 3D packages will be considered. You will have a good understanding of bespoke machine building. Also sought:

• Much of the work is engineering or automotive focused, therefore a good knowledge and interest in motor vehicles/motor industry would be of benefit
• Understanding and experience of vehicle electrical systems & schematics would be beneficial, even from hobby experience
• Experience and knowledge of working in a practical, hands on environment
• Experience of SolidWorks preferred (sheet metal, part, assembly, drawing)
• General workshop equipment understanding is appreciated

A unique company, they are seeking an Engineer who has some proven concept design ability and is competent to look after projects with minimal support. You will have the opportunity to develop your own ideas, work directly with clients and help develop innovative new technology.

We are particularly interested to hear from practical, hands-on Engineers who enjoy reverse engineering, tinkering with cars and/or other practical hobbies outside of work.
