Mechanical Machinery Design Engineer/Manager urgently sought to provide a Principle Engineering function for a well-established automation business with a solid growth plan in place. Working with leading blue chip clients across a wide variety of industries, they have a proven background of delivering successful designs for complex bespoke machinery and robot/automated assembly systems.

The Principle Mechanical Design Manager will be the technical leader of all mechanical designs controlling a small team of five working with SolidWorks 3D CAD.

Duties will include:

·         To be part of a multi-disciplinary team to lead design concepts for bespoke automation system solutions

·         Where required be involved in system concepting for quotations using 3D and 2D CAD from URS documents 

·         Expert level in the use of 3D CAD - Solid Works.

·         To understand the project time scales and the associated challenges to ensure design completion to the agreed project plans. 

·         Technical leadership and people management skills and experience with customers, subcontractors and internal engineers.

·         Manage, champion and mentor internal mechanical design engineers

·         Have good knowledge of detail design and geometric tolerance and materials of all component drawings and implementation of high standards amongst the design team.

·         Have good understanding of the Machinery (safety) regulations, relevant EU harmonized standards and PL rating, Risk Assessments and CE marking. 

·         Maintain drawing control and design standards into the design environment with emphasis on implementing standard parts and methodology across the mechanical design function  Implement proven cost effective machine design techniques and standards 

·         Conduct FMEA for internal and external analysis.

·         Generate FDS, DDS documentation as required.

·         Communicate regularly and effectively identifying improvements in processes and the engineering team.

We are seeking applicants ideally educated to HNC/Degree level in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of ten years’ post graduate experience working in an automation/machinery design role with proven experience of a customer facing role.
